A true born and bred Yorkshire lass – Hull’s latest musical find first picked up the guitar at the tender age of four – making her stage debut aged nine. The music bug was set for life! By the end of her teens she was bathing in her radio heroes – The Bangles, Cyndi Lauper and Heart – and dreams of becoming an ’80s rock star! But motherhood soon put paid to that – and the clock ticked by to 2011 where she stumbled upon her old guitar in the attic. Thereafter it was a one way ticket to all things acoustic – and a whole new journey.

A chance meeting in 2013 with the globally revered guitar superstar Gordon Giltrap – led to a slew of support gigs and a mutual admiration society! The relationship continued through the years – to the point that she has now joined Gordon, Midge Ure, Elliott Randall (Steely Dan), Paul Brett and John Etheridge (Soft Machine) as ambassadors of the acclaimed Vintage Guitar brand.  Good company indeed !

Having released the highly acclaimed Seductive Sky album in 2018, her latest venture is a new version of Cyndi Lauper’s ’80s classic Time After Time, recorded in collaboration with Gordon Giltrap himself. Of the song itself, Carrie herself said: “I had been playing this song constantly when I first met Gordon and we ended up doing it together on stage. As a writer myself it’s just one of those tracks lyrically that makes you think ‘Damn I wish I had written those words ‘. It seemed so right we should give it a go!”

Gordon, for his part, is full of nothing but praise for Carrie’s abilities, as he comments: “Carrie’s words for me are just pure poetry, written and sung from the heart creating beautiful images. She’s also a pretty fine guitarist as well as being a superb singer”.

Following the release of the Seductive Sky album, Carrie was interviewed by US journalist Trish Heywood for Rock Society magazine, Also falling under Carrie’s spell, Trish wrote “she has blossomed into a singer/songwriter with guitar chops and a voice with the rich, warm texture of caramel…and it’s easy to see why pros like Gordon, Oliver Wakeman, and Daniel Karl Cassidy rush to work with this lovely lass!”

‘Time After Time’ by Carrie Martin & Gordon Giltrap is released August 28th by Right Track Records through Universal. The video can be seen below:
