Niente Di Grave has been released as the second single from the new album by Italian jazz singer-songwriter and vocalist Joe Barbieri. The song features the renowned Brazilian cellist Jaques Morelenbaum, who has previously worked with the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Caetano Veloso and Sting.
“Each of us cherishes the unresolved nostalgia of a special encounter that is often accompanied by the guilt of having wasted it,” explains Barbieri. “Niente Di Grave” is a liturgy, an inner lament in a desperate attempt to exorcise that piece of the soul that perhaps will never find a solution.” The sentiment of the song is echoed in its accompanying lyric video, with the Naples based musician adding that “we will eternally write and rewrite those words that have remained on the threshold of our mouth, at the door of our heart, to finally be able to say ‘stay’ to that one person who truly deserved it.”
The title of Barbieri‘s new album, Tratto Da Una Storia Vera, translates as Based On A True Story. Housing a superb collection of songs as beautiful as they are personal, it marks a return to writing and singing his own material following the 2019 release of Dear Billie (his tribute album to Ms. Holiday). The result is a bold, autobiographical album on which each track vibrates with true passion and luminous honesty. Richly diverse, cinematic yet intimate, it is often reminiscent of jazz greats such as Antonio Carlos Jobim and Shirley Horn. It also features a host of international talent among its supporting cast, including Jaques Morelenbaum (cello), Fabrizio Bosso (trumpet), Chris Ott (trombone), the string quartet Onda Nuev, plus vocalists Sergio Cammariere, Carmen Consoli and Tosca. Issued in April 2021, the album was preceded by the upbeat single Promemoria.
