Filthy rock ‘n’ roll, melodic blues and a sprinkling of hip hop, Devon-born duo Moriaty unveiled their second full length opus ‘The Die Is Cast’ to great applause last week. Now available via Easy Action Records, the duo’s raw rock n roll energy perfectly compliments the additional influences that the band have managed to mix in to create an emotive yet powerful record.

Historically, the duo have enjoyed some true hallmark moments. Having supported Muse in Exeter’s Great Hall on the 2015 ‘Psycho’ tour and performed with Seasick Steve at Perranoorth Watering Hole in 2018 – both by personal request – a performance at Leopallooza Festival in 2019 brought Thom Yorke into their keen fanbase. Members of Bristolian rock outfit IDLES have also starred in previous Moriaty videos.

As we enter a second lockdown, Moriaty are urging fans to stay positive and have drawn focus to one of their more upbeat blues numbers on the record – ‘Keep On Keeping On’. The band collaborated with the local Alice Cross Center, a community hub in the band’s hometown of Teignmouth for the video. The Alice Cross Center was formed after the second world war – and is a local resource aimed  “to bring older people together, to provide friendship, a good lunch and a helping hand when needed.”

Moriaty recruited the Wiggles and Giggles club to perform for the video and says it is also yet another form of a tribute to Jordan’s late mother. Jordan says“Its generally about the fact that change will happen and it is always best to face it with guile and confidence, something my mother really tried to instil in me. I wanted to give a nod to the amazing skills my mum left with me, particularly with the lines “in the dark she turned the light on’, as she was always able to make me see things in a positive light when things were hard or I had hit a wall, and the ‘just smile and breathe’ line was something she always used to say when facing challenges or having to deal with idiots!”

The Alice Cross Center says “Be Kind to one another, share time with one another, and never forget that you are never too old to have fun with your mates!”

‘The Die is Cast’ is filled with poignant and mature songwriting that is emphasised with singalong choruses and emotive soundscapes – and is out now via Easy Action Records.
