Nick Mantoan is a young Italian guitarist with, apparently, a background in jazz and fusion, but his real love is so obviously hard hitting rock and roll. He has released a couple of albums so far in his career which also includes his rock Nick’s Airline and now we have his first under the Nick Mantoan name.

The title of the album may be Raw but this is far from the case as the music and delivery seen here is very polished and classy hard rock with a most a most definite blues base. Mantoan loves to riff and he does this in great style as the record is full of intense and pleasing riffs and lots of simply wonderful lead guitar breaks. The blues base of the record is from Zeppelin and the hard rock delivery from the school of Canadian power trio Triumph and all combined with the delivery of Kid Rock which makes the album interesting, intense and, above all else, high energy rock and roll. Nick Mantoan is amazing on the guitar and he has a great, accent free voice too that drives the music forwards and he gets superb support from Filippo Girivetto on bass and Mattia Baricca on drums. Combined, they make a pretty neat power trio with very catchy songs that are all full of hooks, harmonies and all with a very enticing blues heartbeat.

The album features 13-tracks of upbeat and ass kicking rock and all are in the 3-minute range so the band does not mess around as they hit you hard, draw breath and hit you hard again. There is nothing complex or over-taxing here, just great straight forward rock and roll that Nick Mantoan and friends deliver with style and oodles of energy, great fun.
