Those crazy Scandinavians seem to love their glam/sleaze rock and now we have the Norwegian band Notörious to add to the ever-growing list of outrageous glam bands like Crashdiet, Crazy Lixx and Hardcore Superstar. Hailing from Bergen, the band formed in 2018 with Glamorized being the debut album although they did release an EP, Seducer in 2019.

According to the publicity, the band formed with ‘the intention to bring back to life the classic sound of the hard rock/glam metal bands that ruled the Sunset Strip back in the early 1980s. I suppose it was the hedonistic lifestyle that the American glam bands extolled that was one of the big attractions of the genre which it was a million miles away from the British early ’70s version that I knew and I was a big glam fan of Bowie, Sweet, Roxy Music, Mott The Hoople and most especially of he who must no longer be mentioned but Bolan left me cold as could not see the particular appeal. The American version seemed nothing like the glam that I know but I always enjoyed the music but, just sometimes, the visual side was just a little over the top but it was there to make a statement. They were heady days indeed when the likes of Motley Crüe, Skid Row, Hanoi Rocks, Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister were in their pomp and all of these bands guaranteed great music and even better times as they were party bands with a remit to enjoy life to the max.

Glamorized is indeed a good time party rock album made by Chris Höudini on vocals, Nikki DiCato on guitar/backing vocals, Andy Sweet on bass/backing vocals and Freddy Kixx on drum. The band plays with the usual and expected swagger and attitude and this album will definitely put a smile on your face too. The choruses are huge and they introduce plenty of hypnotic hooks and all is played with a real groove and with energy levels cranked as high as they can get them. However, this is not flimsy pop as the band knows how to rock and they rock hard! Chris Höudini is impressive as the frontman and he has a truly marvellous voice having the pop clarity of Morten Harket but the power of Klaus Meine to back it up. Over this, Nikki DiCato supplies amazing guitar runs and his soloing capabilities mean that he would be a positive addition to any rock band he was part of.

Notörious is a fine band and is more hard rock than bump ‘n’ grind but also has the style and talent to play just about anything you want to hear. Do not be put off by the glam rock label as this is a new and great band playing some very fine and accessible heavy rock music.
