Sometimes you wonder if the world has gone mad or is it just you!
Powerhill is a Swiss band with hard rock, sleaze and glam influences which they have taken to create what they call ‘Farm-Rock’ which is crazy but wait – it gets weirder! The band was formed in 2000 by the guitarist known simply as Cep and, apparently, he wanted to form a band to celebrate the two great loves of his life, heavy metal and cows which most probably means that Switzerland must be a rather strange place. Iron Maiden has Eddie and Powerhill has Clotilde the cow and she can be seen on the accompanying photographs so make of it what you will. A demo was recorded in 2005 with Cep then changing the band around before performing a number of what apparently were hilarious gigs all under the Metal-Cow banner before Powerhill was put on hold until 2017. This meant another new line-up and a few more gigs and then a further change when another new singer was unveiled in the golden voiced Leandro Giacometti and what an addition he is. This short EP has been a long time in the making and for all the craziness within the band it is easy to see and hear that they are a hot rock band with some pretty neat tunes and a rather fine melodic hard rock delivery. Cep is a mean guitarist with very able support from the band with Giorgio Albisetti on bass, Danilo Foresti on keyboards and Veronica Torre on drums and sublime backing vocals.
The songs are a little on the crazy side as can be seen from the titles but there is definitely room for humour in music especially if the playing and delivery is deadly serious.
Powerhill may be a band full of oddities but they play a mean rock and roll so it would be a good idea to keep tabs on them.
