Shotgun Mistress is a new band from Melbourne, Australia and they have hit the ground running with this most superior, old school rock album that is 56-minutes of pure hard rock heaven! It may be a new band but there is a wealth of talent and history in the group with founding member and lead guitarist Matt Wilcock having built up a formidable reputation with The Berzerker, Akercocke and Abramelin and his frantic and furious shredding is at the centre of that is good about the album. He is more than ably supported by David Lee on drums, Ben Curnow on bass and the outstanding Glenn Patrick on vocals and each adds his own individual stamp to the band.

Formed in 2018, the boys in the band have spent their time well in perfecting a compact and close knit style that ensure they all know what they are doing and this then allows them to work in perfect harmony. They are very much a hard rock band and play their own brand of rock and roll with style, joy and panache and by adding just the right amount of glam/sleaze they have ensured that they strike to perfect balance between serious musicians and good old party time rockers! It appears that the Golden Robot’s label has great faith in the band as this is the first release on the Crusader Records metal label and the band truly has stepped up to the plate with this thoroughly enjoyable and hard hitting rock album.

There are some pretty hot Australian bands around at the moment but Shotgun Mistress has suddenly pushed to the front of the queue and those fortunate enough to hear the album will find a fully developed and mature band with a great set of songs at their disposal and a delivery that is both thrilling and incessant. The guitar work is immense whether it be head banging riffs or the delicious acoustic work that sets up the barnstorming album closer May She Never Walk Alone, a track of pure genius. The bass and drum work keeps energy levels at their maximum allowing Wilcock to provide some searing guitar work over which the vocals of Glenn Patrick truly command your attention, watch for his name as this is one singer going places.

There has been a great deal of time and effort put into the song writing and all are perfectly formed slabs of pure adrenalin played to perfection and all contain that spark of magic that raises the material above the ordinary and all are delivered with a pleasing melodic resonance that will appeal to fans of all genres of rock music.
