The Ragged Saints is a hard, driving rock band from Finland and was formed in 2011 by guitarists Tomi Julkunen and Toni Bite and, very quickly, they brought onboard vocalist Markku Kuikka, bass player Jukka Hoffrén and drummer Miikki Kunttu. Together, they released their debut, The Sound Of Breaking Free, in 2013 which established them as an outfit very much versed in 80’s metal. They began work on this, their second album, as far back as 2013 but for a variety of reasons it is only now that they have finally finished and released it. The musicians remain the same on Sonic Playground Revisited and, despite the gap between the two albums, the new one pretty much continues where the old one finished off.
Built upon 80’s hard rock with a sound based on any number of the bands from around this time like Warrant, Danger Danger, Bon Jovi and Whitesnake they have built up a big sound with the vocals of Markku Kuikka being both powerful and transatlantic and he brings the melodic songs to life with some delicious harmonies. Neat keyboards combine with effective guitars with machine gun riffs and a certain amount of pop sensibilities making much of what they play rock radio friendly. This is an album with infectious songs, is immediately accessible and will appeal across nearly all rock genres.
