The highly anticipated debut EP ‘We Ascend’ from ex-Anathema frontman Vincent Cavanagh’s new project The Radicant came out was released recently. Released through Kscope on 12″ black vinyl and digitally, The Radicant’s debut EP ‘We Ascend’ exemplifies the expressive voice and song-writing for which Vincent Cavanagh is celebrated, drawing inspiration from a wide sonic spectrum including cinematic electronica & drum and bass.

The EP’s polished production, in collaboration with critically acclaimed, enigmatic French producer Ténèbre, evokes vivid imagery, making it an ideal accompaniment to the visual creations of The Radicant’s live performances.
Vincent Cavanagh is an innovative composer whose work seamlessly blends music with visual arts, pushing the boundaries of interdisciplinary collaboration. Driven by a passion for experimentation, his work with ‘The Radicant’ allows him the freedom to explore new media and technologies, fostering a dynamic exchange between art forms.
London’s Castor Gallery welcomed Sarah Derat and The Radicant for Derat’s ‘Two-Hearted’ exhibition. The exhibition saw two live performances of the pair’s RƎTRO/GRADƎ installation, with live music by The Radicant.
Speaking about the exhibition, Cavanagh said “With RƎTRO/GRADƎ, Sarah & I were presented with an interesting new challenge in multi-channel/spatial audio composition rather than traditional stereo. Our starting criteria were pretty simple: that the piece needed to be around 15 minutes in length and we wanted the sound to dynamically rotate both clockwise and anticlockwise. Sonically, it combines spoken word, AI voice synthesis, and field recordings from volcanoes interpreted as percussive elements and tonal sound design.
The whole performance developed from there in a collaborative creation with choreographer Georgia Tegou and dancer Synne Lundesgaard. Conceptually, RƎTRO/GRADƎ delves into the asynchronicity of human and technological rhythms, exploring the cyclical nature of organic and celestial movements as a form of defiance and resilience amidst technological accelerationism.
The Radicant’s debut EP ‘We Ascend’ is out now on Kscope with a debut album expected in 2025.
