The German thrashers from Karlsruhe Spitfire have been around for ten years, releasing their debut Tectonical Power in 2016 and a sophomore album called Nightmares in 2022. Their style is typical for the German thrash and speed metal scene, perhaps mostly influenced by Sodom and Assassin, with just a little bit of Paradox thrown in the mix. Trinity will be released on vinyl and CD on October 30th and offers eight new songs (plus intro and outro), which also carry some speed metal spirit.

The title track follows smoothly from the intro melody with some razor sharp riffing and a very solid rhythm section. The melodic and very musical solo in Bending Reality is where their speed and heavy metal influences shine through, which, in fact, is a valid comment for all the guitar solos and slower instrumental sections. At the core, Spitfire play old school thrash metal, make no mistake, and the heavy metal nuances are just hinted at in certain songs. There is a great amount of technicality in these guys’ performances (see Crystal Collapse or Mankind Into Dust) and what they are also doing very successfully is playing with tempo changes and varied choruses. Primitive Ways is a more unusual, mid-tempo song, which immediately makes impression with its powerful, multi-voice, epic chorus melody and the fantastic solo.

Creations Of God is more aggressive and faster, closer to the Kreator sound palette, followed by a more mid-tempo approach once again in The Endless Run, with a great crunch added by the shouted vocals and super tight riffs. The band has structured their songs in a great way, and not only that, but have put great thought in the song order, so that the album never gets stale and constantly engages your attention. Even if there is nothing groundbreaking in Trinity, Spitfire have earned my respect with their absolute professionalism and fiery attitude. This is thrash played the right way, with grit and passion, meant to stir up mosh pits front of stage. Check it out.
