Infamous Stiffs is a SoCal (Southern Californian) punk rock band which formed in 2019 and released a pretty impressive debut record last year with the short but very effective Kill For The Sound. SoCal punk bands take their influences from British bands like Throbbing Gristle and Wire and Infamous Stiffs concentrate on fast and furious rock with a distinct late ’70s British sound for sure and they even have a vibe of the great Eddie & The Hot Rods too.
This new live EP features 6-tracks for 18-minutes of furious fun which was recorded in Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, California during lockdown due to Covid and allowed the band to blow off some steam and vent some very obvious pent up anger. Five of the tracks performed live here are also on the Kill For The Sound album but all are most worthy of a repeat especially in the live format. The audience enjoyed the performance and you will too especially if you prefer your rock to be short, sharp and angry. If this band was in London when the punk movement exploded then they would have been huge and the ills of the world that angered those early punk bands still seem to be relevant today so we need groups like Infamous Stiffs to keep railing against the system. Scott Wilkins aka Snotty Scotty is excellent on vocals with just a touch of John Lydon (or Johnny Rotten if you are a stranger to this planet) and the guitars of Mark Pananides and John Gilhooley would grace any rock band, who says that punk rock musicians cannot play?
As I said on a previous review of Kill For The Sound, if you are into The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and The Buzzcocks then you really do need to listen to this bands two releases.
