The German Neue Deutsche Härte (NDH) band Schattenmann has quickly built up a solid reputation as a hardworking and equally hard rocking industrial rock band and it is fair to say that the mighty Rammstein most certainly opened the door in the UK (and worldwide) for some truly exception alt, techno and industrial rock bands from Germany.

Formed in 2016, we now come to their fourth album and with three exceptional records in their locker it was always going to be interesting to see what this ever-developing unit was going to unleash into the rock arena and it’s great to see that Dia De Muertos sees the band taking liberties with music, having a great deal of full and rocking to the extreme!

Simply check out the opening title track with its Mexican flavour (in line with the album title and accompanying artwork) that hints at a new direction before the band reverts to type with a full-on, pounding attack and the outrageous Dickpic with accompanying delightful female vocals, this band knows how to have a good time!

The line-up remains with Frank Herzig on vocals, Patrick Schott on drums, Luke Shook on bass and Jan Suk on guitar and these guys can certainly play as they serve up, paradoxically, a melodic feast to the incessant backbeat of a jack hammer that threatens to explode your head; maybe I should simply turn down the volume but this is music that demands to be played at maximum volume.

This is music with a groove, depth and emotion with perfect, clean vocals and plenty of experimentation within the NDH genre so, if you are into the musical stylings of earthshaking bands like Rammstein, Oomph!, Megaherz, Eisbrecher and Stahlmann then Schattenmann definitely needs to be added to your wish list.
