I can honestly say that I have never heard the name of Boguslaw Balcerak before as I’m sure we would all agree that it is a name never to be forgotten and it also seems to have sent my spell checker into overdrive!

Boguslaw Balcerak is a Polish neo-classical guitarist and quite exceptional shredder being up there with the like of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert and he began his career in music in 2009. This is the third record under the Crylord banner with Blood Of The Prophets coming out on 2011 and Gates Of Valhalla in 2014 so Human Heredity is a little overdue which is no doubt in part delayed due to Covid. Balcerak plays guitar, bass and keyboards with drums courtesy of Jeremiasz Baum and, following the same theme on all three albums, he has brought in an extensive team of singers to add their own stamps of authority on the music. Some of the singers have appeared previously with Balcerak and a full list of which singer sings which song is shown below but there are some very impressive performances from Göran Edman (Headless, Jayce Landberg), Rick Altzi (Masterplan, Herman Frank), David Åkesson (Qantice), Ryan Beck (Arkangela), Jota Fortihno and Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens (Charred Walls Of The Damned, Ex-Iced Earth, Ex-Judas Priest). All put everything they have into their individual performances and if you can call on Owens, Altzi and Edman then you have some sway in the rock world. Jota Fortihno does not appear to have any musical pedigree behind him but on the basis of his performance on Eyes Of Fire then there should be a fair number of rock bands knocking on his door. The songs are well written, quite catchy and typically neo-classic with mercurial drums and bass with Balcerak shredding quite impressively. The whole album actually screams Yngwie Malmsteen and I guess he has been the major influence on Balcerak in his formative years and he has studied well.

Human Heredity is a very enjoyable neo-classical romp and has much to recommend it but Balcerak still has plenty of development to make, mostly in his song composition, before he can sit at the same table as Malmsteen, Vai and Satriani but he is not far away.
