False Memories is another female fronted Goth/symphonic rock band with two albums to their name including the rather splendid The Last Night Of The Fall which came out in 2021.

The band is part Goth, doom and metal but 100% power and a rather wonderful mixture of Within Temptation and Nightwish built around a great team of musicians including the mercurial Francesco Savino on guitar and the sublime and delicious vocals of Rossella Moscatello (she took over from Valentina Pucci on the first record). Following on rather rapidly we now have this digital EP which sees the band covering five very well known songs not all of which are from a Goth or symphonic metal background. We have Our Truth from fellow Italians Lacuna Coil, Forever Failure from the classic Paradise Lost, My Twin from the Swedish giants Katatonia, a great rendition of my favourite Gathering track Strange Machines and a real surprise with a stirring version December by All About Eve which made me realise just what a good and vital band they were.

False Memories chose these tracks because they are the bands that have had a major influence on their sound and wanted to pay homage by recording them. Now, I know that covers albums can split opinion but it is sometimes great to hear different versions and False Memories have poured a lot of love and effort into this EP making it a most enjoyable release plus it is great to hear the bands influences in play.
